Currently, my violin studio at Western Illinois University is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students from Europe, Asia, and the United States. My students are winners of prestigious regional and national competitions in the USA including the 2014 national winner of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Young Artist String Competition. They also won concerto competitions at Western Illinois University and Brevard Summer Festival. My students have gone on to receive graduate assistantships for masters and doctorate programs at some of the best schools of music. Also, they were awarded stipends at prestigious summer festivals such as Brevard Summer Festival and Manchester Music Festival. If you have any questions about violin studies at WIU, please do not hesitate to email me. I would be happy to schedule a campus visit and a complimentary violin lesson for you.

WIU is pleased to announce one assistantship opportunity for a national or international graduate violinist. The assistantship will provide the student with a tuition waiver and a monthly stipend in return for 13 hours per week of work in the department. The assistantship will start at the end of August, 2017. The winning candidate will perform in the Julstrom String Quartet. The other members of the quartet are faculty members at WIU: Julieta Mihai, violin, Istvan Szabo, viola, and Moises Molina, cello. Information about the graduate assistantship is attached below. The due date of the application materials is January 31, 2017. Early applications are strongly encouraged.
WIU is also happy to announce an opportunity of a full undergraduate scholarship (tuition waiver plus a stipend) for an international violin student. The scholarship covers the cost of studies and provides additional funding for four years, which will enable the student to earn a Bachelor’s of Music degree. I am providing a link below describing the necessary requirements for this scholarship and admission to WIU’s School of Music. The recipient of this scholarship will be expected to begin study at WIU in the Fall 2017 (end of August 2017) and will participate in the Presidential International Quartet, a prestigious quartet composed of highly talented international undergraduate students. Early applications are strongly encouraged.
On April 15, 2015, Ion-Alexandru Malaimare played his last Master recital at Western Illinois University. It was a most wonderful performance, and we wish him well as he continues his studies as a doctoral fellow at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign under the guidance of Stefan Milenkovich!
On April 12, 2015, several viola and violin students from my studio played in a recital at COFAC Recital Hall. A wonderful display of talent, inspiration and hard work! Congratulations to Milagros Gallardo Munoz, Joseph Valdes, Charles Evans, Dominique Archambeau, Luciana Hontila and Ion-Alexandru Malaimare!
